Mentoring, Internships and Scholarships are all legitimate and valuable ways to encourage, inspire, and support the next generation.

Beverly Airport Manager, Gloria Bouillon has benefited from mentorship and recognizes the importance and significance of mentoring, internships, and scholarships to propel the next generation forward.

She is excited to be participating in awarding two aviation scholarships as a member of the Board of Directors for The Massachusetts Airport Management Association or “MAMA”.

Bouillon believes awarding scholarships so that students are afforded the opportunity to purse long-term goals not only benefit the students, his or her family, but the aviation community for years to come.

MAMA is made up of members from across the Commonwealth, with a shared goal of promoting Aviation activities and services. Membership includes access to Airport Management Teams from nearly all 37 Public-Use Airports in Massachusetts, as well as Engineers, Project Managers, and Product Support Specialists.

MAMA will be awarding two (2) $2,000 scholarships. One scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a degree in Aviation Management and one will be awarded to a student seeking a degree in an aviation related field. If no applications are received from students seeking a degree in an aviation field outside of Aviation Management, then the second $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to another applicant seeking a degree in Aviation Management.

CROCKER SNOW SCHOLARSHIPS

In order to be considered, the student must have:

1) A proven record of academic achievement, a strong potential to succeed in the future, and a demonstrated financial need.

2) Demonstrate potential and show progress toward becoming an aviation professional. Applicants must be a Massachusetts state resident and be enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, in an accredited aviation-related undergraduate program for the period covered by the scholarship.

The MAMA Crocker Snow Scholarship has been established to honor the memory of a true Massachusetts aviation pioneer. Born in Boston on February 26, 1905, he attended the first Massachusetts aviation gathering as a child, when he was taken to the 1910 Squantum Air Meet.

This meet offered a $10,000 Boston Globe prize for the individual who could successfully fly from Squantum to Boston Light in the outer harbor, and return. It was here that Crocker was bitten by the aviation bug!

We encourage you to engage with a younger student or students and to help in whatever way is a fit for you. For more information on Beverly Regional Airport, please contact Airport Manager, Gloria Bouillon

Q: Is General Aviation Growing?

A: The General Aviation Market was valued at USD 19.91 billion in 2020 and is projected to reach USD 24 billion by 2026, registering a CAGR of about 3% during the forecast period (2021 – 2026).

Q: Where is General Aviation Most Popular?

A: North America. General aviation is particularly popular in North America, with over 6,300 airports available for public use by pilots of general aviation aircraft (around 5,200 airports in the U.S. and over 1,000 in Canada).

Q: How many Aircraft Represent General Aviation?

In 2020, there were more than 440,000 general aviation aircraft in the world. These aircraft range from small training aircraft and helicopters to business jests. Nearly half of these are based in the United States.

Q: Has the Pandemic Adversely Effected Aviation?

In the short term, the pandemic has affected the general aviation as the orders and deliveries suffered an initial decline in 2020. However, due to the increased operations of the helicopters and business jets for the transport of patients, charter operations, and VIP transportation among others, the plans for fleet modernization have been unaffected in the long term. This is expected to have a positive impact- enhancing the growth of the general aviation market in the coming years.

Q: Has the Market Changed Significantly for General Aviation?

A: Yes. The increase in the number of high-net-worth individuals has led to a greater demand for private travel, and business travel. There’s also been an increase in the number of helicopters and business jets to meet this need.

The other larger factor is the growth in tourism in various regions. Many charter operators and tourism companies are making plans expand their fleet with introduction of new piston engine aircraft, turboprop aircraft, helicopters and further expand their presence.

Please visit our Commuter Flight Offerings to Nantucket from Skip Air!

Q: How significantly does General Aviation contribute to the US Economy?

A: The general aviation industry contributes over USD 150 billion to the US economy, annually.

According to the National Agricultural Aviation Association, the agricultural aviation operations continue to grow. In addition to the growth in demand for fixed-wing aircraft, the demand for civil helicopters is also witnessing growth due to helicopter service (such as air taxis, air ambulance, etc.) in the region.

Finally, the increasing investments of the aerospace companies towards the introduction of urban air mobility in the North American air space are expected to rapidly strengthen the growth of the general aviation market in the region during the forecast period.

AviationPros recently compiled a list of “2021 Airport Business Top 40 Under 40”. Beverly Regional Airport’s own Airport Manager, Gloria Bouillon was chosen to be among this distinguished group.

Thinking big has been a cornerstone in Bouillon’s career and she has spearheaded the creation and implementation of master plans- first at Pittsfield Municipal Airport (PSF), where she led the facility through two major runway reconstructions, a terminal design and building one of the largest solar arrays in the state of Massachusetts.

Now at the helm at Beverly Regional Airport, she is off and running with a Master Plan as well. She stresses the importance of collaboration and connecting with the community and local and state agencies so that there is a true partnership in planning and implementing growth and opportunity.

Bouillon is no stranger to recognition and the spotlight. Previously she was named one of the Top Women in Aviation and Aerospace to Follow in 2021.

She was also added to the Beverly Historic Society as the first female airport manager to manage the airport since it opened in 1928. She has also been asked to speak internationally on how she has achieved 30 percent growth in one year, despite the challenges of COVID.

If we can help with your plans to visit the North Shore during this magical time of year, we would love to! Please contact Airport Manager, Gloria Bouillon https://beverlyairport.com/contact/for any questions. On behalf of our entire team at Beverly Regional Airport, we wish you and your family a wonderful holiday!

The role of General Aviation nationwide is a leading one, and a vitally important one. When people think of aviation they tend to think of the larger major airports, but there’s so much more to the aviation story. At Beverly Regional Airport we are incredibly proud to play an important role in that story.

Where do the Majority of Take Offs and Landings Occur?
To better understand the scope of General Aviation, look at the following two statistics. Did you know that 75 percent of landings and takeoffs in U.S. airports occur on general aviation airports? That makes general aviation airports vital to commerce and transportation within the U.S.

According to Business Aviation, our country’s air transportation system consists of approximately 5,300 public use airports. Of which, only around 550 are served by commercial airlines which leaves a whopping 4,750 General Aviation Airports as the vast majority of U.S. Airports.

Why is This so Beneficial?
Business and commerce take place in far more areas than can be served by major commercial airports. In fact, major business is located in smaller towns and communities all over the country.

It’s commonplace for businesses to be headquartered an hour or more from the nearest major airport where scheduled flights are available. Enter the Regional Airports like us, that save businesses travel time and money while putting professionals closer to their actual destinations.

Convenience and accessibility are two major benefits that Beverly Regional Airport affords business travelers while General Aviation Airports all over the country provide the same.

Understanding the scope of General Aviation Airports helps to explain their critical role in travel, transportation, and infrastructure throughout the U.S.

Serving Vital Civic and Community Needs.
At Beverly, we are equally proud of our impact on a long list of community and civic needs as well, including medical, search and rescue, firefighting, and police.

This includes things like:

  • Emergency Response such as Highway Patrol, Search and Rescue, Firefighting, Pipeline Patrol, and the Police
  • Fed Ex/UPS feeders
  • Charitable Flying such as LightHawk, Pilots and Paws, Angel Flight, Flying Doctors or the Flying Samaritans
  • Business Flying
  • Wildlife Management
  • Air Shows & Races, Flight Museums Airport Days
  • Agricultural Flying
  • Media Flying/ News reporting

We Have Unique Opportunities to Play an Integral Role in The Many Advances in Aviation
Aviation is ALWAYS exciting. But we are truly once again on the forefront of some major leaps in how we travel. We are also poised to be a perfect location to serve as a developmental site and hub for cutting age aviation developments.

Advanced Air Mobility is one such opportunity.  The Federal Aviation Administration defines Urban Air Mobility (UAM) as an envisioned…“safe and efficient aviation transportation system using highly automated aircraft that will operate and transport passengers or cargo at lower altitudes within urban and suburban areas.”

national aviation month

Aviation has had a relatively short but formidable history beginning with early attempts at flight that included kites and gliders, then evolved to powered heavier-than-air, supersonic and space flights.

National Aviation History Month is dedicated to exploring, recognizing, and celebrating America’s great contributions and achievements in the development of aviation.

At Beverly Regional Airport, we are more than aviation enthusiasts, we live, breathe and sleep all things aviation, and hope you will join us in observing, and remembering all the people and advances that have led to today’s truly remarkable world of aviation.

Here are some fun facts that you can learn and share with others. Some of these fun facts were first compiled on Gail S Hennessey’s Education blog post.

AVIATION FUN FACTS

  • The Wright brothers’ first attempt went 120 ft (approximately 6ft)…a distance covered less than the wingspan of today’s 747 Jumbo Jet!
  • Charles Lindbergh was the first to fly non-stop from New York to Paris. The trip, in 1927, took 33.5 hours.
  • Amelia Earhart was the first woman aviator to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. The year was 1928.
  • Lillian Gatlin was the first woman to ride as a passenger in an airplane! The year was 1922.
  • In 1939, Willa Brown was the first African American woman to earn a commercial pilot’s license.
  • Every 37 seconds, an airplane takes off from Chicago O’Hare’s International Airport. That’s about 100 airplanes each hour.
  • One third of your taste buds get numb while flying.
  • Bessie Coleman was an American aviator and the first African American female pilot. She was also the first American to receive an international pilot’s license.
  • At any given time, there are 3 million people in the air in an airplane!
  • Some people maintain that the Wright Brothers were not the first but that Gustave Whitehead successful powered an aircraft in Bridgeport, CT, on August 14, 1901…two years before the Wright Brothers. Whitehead’s craft, called the Condor, did two flights on that date. Reaching 50 Ft., the distance covered was 1 1/2 miles.
  • Aerophobia is the fear of flying.
  • There is also a National Aviation Day on August 19th. The day was established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, in 1939, on the birthday of Orville Wright, who first piloted the Wright Flyer on December 17, 1903.
  • Inventor, artist, scientist, Leonardo da Vinci had sketches for a flying machine called an ornithopter. The year was 1485.
  • George Cayley is called the “Father of Aviation”. He built the first glider in 1799.

Check out all the links below to learn more about Aviation.

At Beverly Regional Airport, we are always celebrating the miracle and majesty of aviation, but we are especially proud this month! We invite you to our airport to celebrate, remember and with two flight schools on site, discover firsthand the beauty of aviation! Contact Airport Manager, Gloria Bouillon for more information.

Imagine departing from Beverly Regional Airport and arriving at Logan in six minutes flat as opposed to the one and half hours that it currently takes. Imagine leaving Beverly and arriving in Providence, RI in 25 minutes or less.

Very soon you will no longer have to imagine as these two scenarios will be a reality. We are on the cusp of a transportation revolution, and it’s called Urban Air Mobility.

What is Advanced Air Mobility and Urban Air Mobility?
The Federal Aviation Administration defines Urban Air Mobility (UAM) as an envisioned…“safe and efficient aviation transportation system using highly automated aircraft that will operate and transport passengers or cargo at lower altitudes within urban and suburban areas.”

They go on to say that “UAM will be composed of an ecosystem that considers the evolution and safety of the aircraft, the framework for operation, access to airspace, infrastructure development, and community engagement.”

Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) builds upon the UAM concept by incorporating use cases not specific to operations in urban environments, such as:

  • Commercial Inter-city (Longer Range/Thin Haul)
  • Cargo Delivery
  • Public Services
  • Private / Recreational Vehicles

Air Taxi for Passengers, Cargo and Private and Public Service.
In a nutshell, commuting and cargo delivery by automobile is going to be competing with commuting and cargo delivery by aircraft, dramatically increasing the usage of Air Mobility. Air Mobility will provide speedier, more efficient options while alleviating gridlock and congested automotive traffic.

Air Mobility is not a mode of commuter transportation that is a far off, futuristic fantasy. But a reality that is in serious development by dozens of companies that will be offering air taxi service within the next five to ten years. Synchronizing customer needs to make it affordable, convenient, and efficient for customers is currently being studied, developed, and researched.

Beverly Regional is a Perfect Fit as a Proving Ground for Urban Air Mobility
While there are differing approaches and players behind Air Mobility’s required energy supply systems, nearly all agree a regional airport like Beverly has the perfect attributes to serve as a hub for testing and development.

Beverly’s proximity to Boston as well as short distance to iconic tourist destinations will supply a steady stream of users. Also, with an already thriving (Fortunate 500 Companies) business travel customer base, nearby business parks, available land for development, and exceptional accessibility, Beverly is uniquely suited to embrace a program of testing and development for Air Mobility.

skip air Seneca

Exclusive, Safe and Convenient are just three words to describe Skip Air’s Charter Company.

As for us, we are thrilled to have them operating out of Beverly – and offering flights from Northern Main to the Carolinas. A service we are excited to offer and that is the embodiment of convenience for those traveling for business and pleasure.

This addition will allow passengers to avoid the long list of hassles when traveling to a major airport…a list that includes security, delays, price fluctuations, and ground transportation. All of these factors associated with a major airport can add hours and days on to travel which can significantly diminish your productivity and erode your time spent meant for relaxing. Visitors can choose from pre-scheduled service to and from Nantucket or charter service to a desired location.

Beginning October 1, Beverly with Skip Air will provide the ease and efficiency that today’s traveler desperately needs.

More About Skip Air
Safety is their number one priority. Rest assured; all FAA guidelines are strictly followed to ensure the safest possible flights for our customers. All flights are operated by Harvard Air Taxi, LLC, a charter operator established in 2010. They operate one aircraft on the Charter Certificate, a Piper Seneca twin-engine from Beverly Airport as Harvard Air Taxi, LLC under the FAA Certificate 6MIA606M which defines our Operational Specifications.

Now on to Part Two of Our Website Blog Series…

Great Seafood
Of course, with all that fishing that we talked about in Part One of our Blog, you’re bound to find yourself in Seafood Heaven. Very few places in the country feature anywhere near the amount of delicious seafood options as does North Shore. The North Shore’s Ipswich Clams, which are hand-harvested from the muddy tidal flats of the Essex River, are unlike any other. Legend has it that fried clams were invented in Essex. Whether you plant yourself outside a traditional shack, or inside one of North Shore’s quaint family restaurants, you will find yourself deluged with wicked good seafood.

Breweries
What about washing all that great seafood down? The North Shore is bountiful when it comes to its brews. Great beer and cider are abundant at places like Far from the Tree Cider in Salem,  Newburyport Brewing Company in Newburyport, Clown Shoes in Ipswich,  Cape Ann Brewing Company in Gloucester, and Tap Brewing Company in Haverhill. Many of these world-class breweries feature ingredients (locally grown and malted grains, fresh hops and more) from throughout Massachusetts. Arrive thirsty, friends.

Professional Sports
Now, let’s move further inland and talk about stadiums and arenas. Because Boston is “Titletown!” That’s right, any visit to North Shore, be it for business, or pleasure, would be incomplete without checking out The Sox at Fenway, The Patriots at Gillette Stadium, or The Celtics/Bruins at TD Garden regardless of where you’re from, or where your rooting interests lay. Sports fans in the North Shore are among the most fanatical anywhere… living and dying by their local sports teams. As such, you may want to consider investment in a Red Sox ball cap, a Bruins hockey sweater, and/or a Patriots or Celtics jersey. After all, they’re all about “winnah, winnah, chicken dinnah” in North Shore due to the many championship rings collected by their professional teams. Who knows, you may wind up moving there, and adopting one of those “winnahs” as your own.

Getting Around
How about getting around? Those that live in the North Shore live close enough to some sort of alternative transit option run by the MBTA, and most locals prefer to take a bus or train to one of the T stations as opposed to driving.

Fly Beverly
Of course, getting there is a snap with Beverly Regional Airport,  located just 14 miles to Boston, we serve as a great jumping off point. Easy to get in and out of, you can get busy exploring right away.

Once in Boston, the T is the most popular way to get around to see a Bruins game at the TD Garden, or catch a Sox game at Fenway, or just walk around the Commons for the day. Whether it’s winter, spring, summer or fall, there’s always plenty to do in the North Shore of Massachusetts.

We would love to answer any questions you may have about exploring the North Shore and extend warm hospitality while you are here! For more information, please contact Airport Manager, Beverly Bouillon
